It's never too cold for Gelato

Exciting news for our Grafton shoppers– today, we launched our Fresh2GO Gelato Bar in the Grafton Store!  The bar is located in the deli department and will have ten varieties of fresh gelato daily!  We also have a Gelato Bar located at our Bayside Fresh2GO location.

Flavors will vary, but you may find the following varieties on any given day: Butter Pecan, Coconut, Hazelnut, Mint Chocolate Chip, Spumoni, Cappuccino, Vanilla Bean, Lemon Sorbet, Mango Sorbet and Raspberry Sorbet.  If you’re like me and have a hard time picking out a flavor, ask the friendly Sendik’s deli associate for a sample!

We get our gelato from a family-owned Italian bakery in Chicago that was built around its famous spumoni ice cream.  (Spumoni is an Italian molded ice cream “spuma”=foam, spumoni (plural)=multiple flavors of Italian ice cream molded together.)  This can also be purchased as a gelato flavor.

Gelato is the Italian term for “ice cream”, but it’s consistency, taste, and “healthier for you” appeal has gained mass popularity in the United States.  Gelato is slowly churned, allowing very little room for air to sneak in; creating a denser product.  Because gelato has less fat content than regular ice cream, it creates an intense flavor in your mouth, encouraging you to take another scoopful.

And Grafton shoppers — no worries — the remodel is almost over.  We thank you for your patience during the improvements.  Watch for an upcoming blog that details all of the store’s new features and information on an event to celebrate the remodel!
