For the second week in a row, we’re offering one-pound packages of strawberries for 99¢. They are sweet and juicy and the best pick-me-up during this never-ending winter! I asked our produce team how we got such a sweet deal. I learned that the strawberries hail from Florida, and the state is nearing the end of their amazingly successful strawberry season. No complaints here!
I’ve definitely stocked up on my fair share of strawberries over the past week, and I’m continuing to enjoy using them in my meals and as a snack. Here are some of the ways that I’ve been enjoying the strawberries:
In my lunch: I cleaned/cut them and placed them in Tupperware containers (along with my chopped $2 pineapple from Wednesday’s 7 Days, 7 Ways to Save Special) and packed them in my lunches this week.
Froze them: I cleaned the berries and chopped off the stems. Then, I placed them in a single-layer on a baking sheet in the freezer overnight. Once they were frozen and I knew they wouldn’t stick together, I transferred them to a resealable plastic bag. They will be perfect for smoothies!
Made my favorite Strawberry Spinach Salad Recipe: There are many different versions of this salad, but mine usually consists of: spinach, sliced strawberries, avocados, crumbled feta cheese and slivered almonds. I mix all of these ingredients in a bowl and toss them with Sendik’s Raspberry Vinaigrette.
This deal continues through next Tuesday, 3/11. What creative ways are you using your strawberries? Let me know what else I should try!
