Locally owned grocer expands into Lake Country
Expanding its service into the Lake Country area, Balistreri owned and operated Sendik’s Food Markets today announced it will open a store in Hartland next year. The store will be located at 600 Hartbrook Drive, on the northwest corner of Hartbrook Drive and Merton Avenue, just north of Hwy 16. It will be the twelfth location for the family-owned grocer based in Whitefish Bay and recognized by its famous “Red Bag.”
“We frequently hear from customers who would like Sendik’s to join their community,” said Ted Balistreri, one of the family co-owners of Sendik’s. “Today, we’re excited to announce our new Lake Country location to help us better serve our guests from Waukesha County, and we look forward to meeting all of our new neighbors.”
The Balistreri family has entered a contract with Devo Properties of Mequon to remodel the currently vacant space in Hartbrook Mall, which will be renamed Sendik’s Hartland Plaza. The approximately 30,000-square-foot store at the eastern end of the shopping center will be remodeled. Devo Properties has plans to enhance the entire 69,300-square-foot mall, which includes Biebel’s True Value, Great Midwest Bank, and BP/Colburn’s Car Wash, among other tenants.
“The Village of Hartland has been a great partner already,” said Greg Devorkin of Devo Properties. “We’re grateful for all their help and expect a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the good people of Hartland. We can’t wait to get started on this project.”
When complete, the Sendik’s Food Markets will employ 80 to 90 associates, with approximately half of those being full-time positions. No firm date has been set for the store’s 2014 opening.
“We look forward to working with Devo Properties and Sendik’s to re-energize this important part of the Village,” said Dave Lamerand, Hartland Village President.
