5 Days of Savings

Our 5-Day Wine, Spirits & Beer Sale started today, which means it’s a great time to look at my stock of wine at home.  Our Wine & Spirits team works hard to put together a great event with sales on many of our guest’s favorite products.  And if you see a bottle of wine that isn’t on sale, you can still take 15% off during the event on any regularly priced $15 to $50 bottle.

Since the sale falls so close to Easter, I thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to talk to our Wine & Spirits team about their recommended wines for the holiday.

If you’re serving lamb for your Easter dinner:

It’s important to consider the preparation (glaze or herb crust) and cut (leg, loin or chop) when deciding which wine would best match your meal. A big bold red wine is always a good starting point, and because of the full flavor of lamb, this is the time you can go as big as you’d like.

Dwight Brown,  assistant director of wine & spirits, recommends Malbecs for big, soft-bodied reds and soft tannins. He suggests the Graffito Malbec.  Wine Spectator described it as having “notes of baking spices, licorice and smoke and sports a solid core of dark cherry and macerated plum.”  It’s on sale for $16.99 during the sale.

Director of Wine & Spirits Marc Goodman suggests taking a look at another classic that we’re offering during our 5-Day sale, Ramon Bilbao Rioja. It’s priced at only $24.99, which saves you $45 (!), and we don’t expect it to last long.  It’s from the 2005 vintage and is drinking fantastically right now.  “It features cherry, tobacco and cedar flavors, with notes of spice and vanilla, backed by well-integrated tannins that support the polished texture,” stated Wine Spectator.

If you’re serving ham for your Easter dinner:

Rieslings are always a great choice to serve with ham.  Dwight recommends the Leitz Dragonstone as a good choice, as it’s densely packed with fruit,  and it’s balanced with bright and refreshing acidity.  Because of the typically good amount of saltiness to a ham, this wine provides the perfect sweet and salty combination. It’s selling for $13.99, which saves you $6 from its regular price.

Marc suggests the Raventos Blanc La Rosa.  The 2013 vintage has just arrived.  It’s the epitome of fresh and a sign that spring is here.  It’s made with 100% pinot noir grapes from a 500+ year estate, and it’s pale in color. The delicate strawberry fruit flavors hold impressive weight and provide power with the texture without being sweet. And it finishes incredibly long with a savory bite.  You can purchase this for $17.99 during the sale.

Our 5-Day Wine, Spirits & Beer Sale is going on through Tuesday, April 14th.  Click here to see all of the great specials going on!
