Roland Red Quinoa

Natural. Prewashed. A delicious alternative grain with a light, delicate taste. High in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Known as the mother grain quinoa (Keen-wah), along with potatoes and corn was a staple of the ancient Incas and is still a major food source for the Queechua Indians of the Andean region of South America. Quinoa has a higher protein content than any other grain and contains all eight essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. It is an excellent alternative for people allergic to wheat and corn products. Quinoa has a naturally occurring bitter tasting coating of saponin that needs to be removed prior to cooking. Quinoa that has been mechanically polished to remove this coating also loses its germ kernel and much of its dietary fiber. Roland Quinoa is prewashed to remove saponin; therefore retaining its dietary fiber, making it a whole-grain food. Product of Peru.
