Okay, not to scare you off with more of the “T” word – we’re talking ground turkey here, and it doesn’t taste a thing in the world like Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, these little meatballs are so tasty, I wish I had made a double batch and stashed them away in the freezer. They’d be perfect stuffed in toasted rolls for subs, or tossed onto an impromptu pizza, or simply served over the obvious spaghetti. Maybe if you make this, you’ll have better forethought than I had. Double up on the meatballs, you won’t be sorry.
I hesitate to call this meal a casserole because of the bad rap such dishes get. I’ll just say it’s cozy, family friendly comfort food served up in one gooey, cheesy pan; I highly recommend it for picky toddlers, t’weens and teens.
Actually, I’d recommend it to anyone who’s just plain hungry.
Have a great week.

This dinner (let me just come out and say it from the start) ….. this dinner is probably not on your diet. Well, it wouldn’t appear on any diet I’ve ever subjected myself to. But if you’re in the market for comfort food and don’t mind throwing a little calorie caution to the wind, you should whip this little number up ASAP. Even with an onion gravy, I would absolutely call it kid friendly. A perfect Sunday supper or a relatively easy weeknight meal, serve it over mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles and worry about the treadmill later. : )

Sometimes the DamKids love what they order in a restaurant so much that they ask if I can duplicate the dish at home. Once in a while, I’m able to come close (this tortilla soup, for instance); other times (like when it comes to authentic Chinese food) … not so much. And I tell them simply that that’s why restaurants were invented in the first place.

Last Friday night we played mixed doubles paddle with friends and had an Irish-themed spread together afterward. Cocktails with an Irish spin were also flowing, and as a consequence, my game deteriorated early on in the evening. It was a sad state of affairs, since I’ve never had much of a game to begin with. Luckily for me, the Husband didn’t seem to mind covering most of the court (because clearly his Black & Tan wasn’t as large as mine was, ahem).

So according to TMJ4 Meteorologist Scott Steele, winter is not quite ready to relinquish its hold on us just yet. More snow is coming our way this afternoon and overnight, which means a little more shoveling, bundling, slippery roads and, when it comes to dinner time, more cozy comfort food.

You wouldn’t believe how difficult it was for me to wrestle back enough of this meal from the DamFam so I could accomplish picture taking today. This recipe is always a hit here, so I should have expected they would all be circling the stove like the sharks they are. Luckily, I was able to hoard this meager little helping, which was handed over to my sweet next door neighbor Fred, who just a little while ago helped me out of a major jam with my sump pump. The jam was that said pump decided to not work this morning and the alarm’s ear piercing shriek was putting a major damper on my blog writing capabilities. And incidentally, the basement was about to flood. Enter Fred, who not only helps moms bring new babies into the world every day, but also has the ability to diagnose household plumbing issues from 10 paces. He saved the day (as well as NTYB’s Xbox 360) and was thereby rewarded with Chicken & Dumplings. Thank you Fred, are the best. : )

The Holidays were great going down, but personally, I’m glad to have them behind us (with “behind” being the operative word). I don’t think I ever mentioned it here, but like lots of people, my resolution last New Year’s Eve was to drop a few LBs. I probably didn’t say anything here because I was afraid of failing in front of all my readers. But actually (gasp!), I didn’t fail. It took about six months but I lost a little chunk of weight and two sizes, and a year from where I started, it’s still off. Okay, one or two might have found their way back on in recent weeks, but I will be dealing with them in short order.

I decided to rock the boat around here with this chicken chili last night. This recipe has been dog-eared for years (no exaggeration) and I give it a glance every now and then, but usually end up chickening out (har) and making my old stand by – Cincinnati Style. It’s served over spaghetti with cheese, beans, and onions, and I’ve been told by it’s similar to Real Chili. Never had Real Chili myself, but I hear it’s good stuff. Especially at 2:00 am after an evening of carousing downtown.

You’re looking at the perfect meal for a blustery winter day! A day so cold, I’ve got half a mind to toss on my full length mink before I venture out later. This is just the sort of day that calls for a mink coat, don’t you agree? All right, I don’t actually have a fur coat of any sort. But if I did, I’d darned sure be hauling it out today. I’ll throw on my puffy down jacket instead. I’ll put a fur coat on my list for Santa next year. And I’m sure he’ll be getting right on that request.
Where was I?
